Die angeborene Muskeldystrophie (CMD bzw. MD) ist eine Muskelerkrankung, die zu Atrophie und schlechtem Wachstum führt. Diese spezielle Variante der Krankheit wird durch eine rezessive Mutation des Gens LAMA2 verursacht. Die in diesem Test analysierte Variante kommt beim Italienischen Windhund vor. Eine verwandte Variante kommt auch beim Staffordshire Bullterrier vor.
Klinische Merkmale
Affected dogs present within the first few months of life with an abnormal short-strided gait, occasional vomiting, exercise intolerance, and retarded growth.
