Die X-chromosomale myotubuläre Myopathie (XLMTM) beim Rottweiler ist eine kürzlich entdeckte Variante einer schweren Muskelerkrankung, die häufig eine Euthanasie erfordert. Diese Variante, die durch eine X-chromosomal-rezessive Mutation des Gens MTM1 verursacht wird, wurde bisher nur bei australischen Rottweilern beobachtet. Verwandte Varianten wurden beim Labrador Retriever und beim Boykin Spaniel beobachtet.
Klinische Merkmale
Affected puppies typically start displaying poor muscle growth and progressive weakness between 7 and 13 weeks of age. They behave and eat normally, but tire easily and have difficulty raising their heads or standing. Cold and stress worsen symptoms, which also increase in severity over time. Affected dogs are typically euthanized on humane grounds.
